Mehta makes a move from Rediffusion, where he was creative director

Mudra has

appointed Varun Mehta, who was earlier with Rediffusion DY&R, as its creative director. Mehta will report to Rajesh Sonawane, executive creative director at Mudra.

Citing his reason for the move, Mehta says, "The reason that I accepted the position is that I'll be working closely with Bobby (Bobby Pawar, NCD of Mudra), who was my first boss at O&M." Mehta started his career in advertising in 1999 as a copywriter with O&M and was there for nearly three and a half years. While there, Mehta worked on accounts such as Orange, World Gold Council and Asian Paints. After that, he had a short stint with McCann for about eight months.

From here, he moved to TBWA India for about two years. The brands he worked with there included Samsonite, BPL Mobile and Indian Oil.

Before his stint with Rediffusion DY&R, Mehta spent a year with JWT as creative director, handling key brands such as Airtel, DayOne, Indian Airlines, Bacardi and Sugar Free.

Rajesh Sonawane, ECD, Mudra, comments on Mehta's appointment, "Varun is a rare writer with fantastic visual sense. His background in photography gives him that edge. He will strengthen the brands under his mandate."

At Mudra, Mehta will be responsible for a few of the Godrej businesses, Nutrine, STAR News and Philips.
