NewsX to reassess its name and logo

NewsX, the English news channel that was acquired by Vinay Chhajlani and Jehangir Pocha, may have a new name and a new logo soon

English news channel, NewsX, that was bought over by Indi Media in January this year, may have a new name and logo soon.

Talking to afaqs!, Vinay Chhajlani, one of the promoters of Indi Media, says, “No decision has been taken as yet. As there is a cost involved in changing the name and the logo, we are assessing the brand equity of the current name and logo.”

A decision for the change, according to Chhajlani, would be taken only if required.

Indi Media was formed by two media veterans, Vinay Chhajlani, one of the promoters of NaiDunia, the Indore based Hindi daily; and Jehangir Pocha, former editor of Businessworld magazine.

Earlier, NewsX was a part of the INX Network, promoted by Indrani Mukerjea. INX Network was made up of two divisions, INX Media – comprising 9X, the general entertainment channel and 9XM, the music channel, and INX News – comprising NewsX.

The news channel’s existing logo was created by UK-based Red Bee Media.

Earlier this month, NewsX’s creative duties were awarded to T.A.G., McCann Worldgroup's second agency. The account, which is worth Rs 15 crore, was won by the Delhi wing of the agency. If the name and logo do undergo a change, T.A.G. would take care of that.

The news channel’s current positioning, “Clarity in a Complex World” is also being revisited.
