Shourie has joined the channel as director, BBC Worldwide Channels, South Asia
Deepak Shourie, executive vice-president and managing director, Discovery Communications India has joined BBC Worldwide Channels as director, South Asia.
In his new role, Shourie will oversee the management of BBC Worldwide Channels across South Asia. He will be based in New Delhi and work with the senior management strategy team in Singapore and London.
Shourie will report to Mark Whitehead, senior vice-president and general manager, BBC Worldwide Channels Asia.
In an official communiqué, Whitehead says, "Deepak's presence in the team will help to make further inroads into South Asia. He brings a great depth of knowledge, experience and numerous personal relationships that will enable us to shift into the next stage of growth for the channel's business in the region."
Shourie comes with a rich experience in the media industry, spanning across print and electronic media. During the early days in his career, he was with Living Media, the publishers of India Today, as group general manager. He was also associated with the Outlook Group at the time of the launch of Outlook magazine.
He went on to become executive president at Hindustan Times and later, was chief executive officer, Zee TV. His last stint, of about seven years, was with Discovery Communications India.
