GETIT Infoservices, a directional media company in India with services that include yellow pages, white pages directories, classified media, tele-information services, online and mobile media, has roped in Jaspreet Bindra, former regional director of Microsoft India, as CEO. Bindra joined the company in early February. He quit Microsoft in February, 2012 and took a sabbatical for a year.
Bindra's immediate mandate will be to drive the company along similar lines.
Bindra comes with 18 years of experience. He started his career with Tata Administrative Services (TAS) and spent 11 years with the Tata Group, across its FMCG and telecom businesses. He worked with Microsoft India for six years, heading its internet business and, subsequently, the retail, entertainment and devices businesses.
Bindra was also a part of the start up team of Baazee.com (now eBay India) as its COO and has been involved with the tech start up ecosystem as an entrepreneur, mentor and advisor. He has also been a part of several industry forums - as the vice-chairman of the Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI), and a member of FICCI Media and Entertainment Committee.
GETIT was earlier known as M&N Publications, before it was rebranded in 2002. M&N was the publisher of official telephone directories, in association with the Department of Telecommunications and yellow pages. The company had redefined its role from being a directory publisher to being an information provider and an intermediary that brings together buyers and sellers. It was launched in 1986 and is also a founder member of Asian Vendors Inc., a partnership between leading yellow pages and database marketing companies in eight countries across Asia.
Backed by Helion Ventures, the company currently employs more than 1,000 people across the country and operates local search, classified and B2B marketplace businesses. Through 2002 to 2004, GETIT introduced GETITNOW, its 24-hour tele information service, as a bundled offering to its print yellow pages across 14 cities. In 2005, GETIT introduced tradeget.com, its online B2B marketplace for exporters and manufacturers. In 2007, it launched its WAP search for mobiles on wap.GETIT.in. In 2009, in another first, GETIT completely remodelled the yellow pages as Buying Guides - all colour, glossy directories which are paginated by vertical categories - providing a significantly enhanced user experience.
