GEC Watch: Five of Star Plus' shows feature in top 10 shows' list

Star Plus' recently launched reality show Nach Baliye opened with 6034 TVTs. Diya Aur Baati Hum continues to lead the chart as Pyaar Ka Dard, Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai and Saath Nibhana Saathiya featured in top 10 shows' list.

Star Plus has maintained its lead amongst the Hindi general entertainment channels, courtesy the performance of its shows that have made it the most successful channel in the genre.

As per data provided by a TAM subscriber (HSM, 4+, C&S, including LC1 markets), Star Plus grossed 536270 GVTs (gross viewership in thousands) in Week 44. The channel had closed the previous week with 486066 GVTs. It has launched the sixth season of its celebrity dance reality show Nach Baliye that opened with 6034 TVTs on November 9.Four of its other shows, along with Nach Baliye, have featured in the top 10 shows' list of TAM.

At No. 2 is Colors, that added 22645 GVTs to close the week with 486423 GVTs. Colors' Bigg Boss averaged 5133 TVTs (last week 5024 GVTs) as Anil Kapoor's 24 clocked 3222 TVTs (last week 2755 TVTs) in the week ended November 9. Two of its shows were placed in the top shows' list.

Following Colors is Zee TV that registered 428610 GVTs (last week 434987 GVTs) in the week. The channel recently launched the fourth season of its home-grown dance reality show, Dance India Dance, the mega-audition of which rated 3806 TVTs on November 3 and 5550 TVTs on November 9. Two of its shows were placed in the top 10 shows' list.

Life OK is next with 344624 GVTs (last week 323897 GVTs). It is followed by SAB, which grossed 310534 GVTs (last week 337099 GVTs) as its Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah featured in the top shows' list.

Sahara One recorded 31549 GVTs (last week 31647 GVTs); Star Utsav rated 89355 GVTs (last week 90202 GVTs); and Zee Anmol grossed 41776 GVTs (last week 50827 GVTs).

Star Plus' Diya Aur Baati Hum continued to be the most watched show on Hindi GECs with average of 10921 TVTs (last week 10155 TVTs). This is followed by Zee TV's Jodha Akbar that fetched 8989 TVTs (last week 8101 TVTs).

The next spot is occupied by Star Plus' Pyaar Ka Dard with 7754 TVTs (last week 7752 TVTs) as Colors' Balika Vadhu clocked 7581 TVTs (last week 7080 TVTs).

At No. 5 is Star Plus' Saath Nibhana Saathiya that fetched 7518 TVTs (last week 7509 TVTs). Next is Colors' Comedy Nights With Kapil that got 7357 TVTs (last week 6631 TVTs).

The seventh most watched programme on the Hindi GEC space was SAB TV's Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashma that clocked 7135 TVTs (last week 7367 TVTs).

It was followed by Star Plus' Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai that closed the week with 7039 TVTs (last week 6986 TVTs).

At No. 9 is Nach Baliye with 6034 TVTs as Zee TV's Sapne Suhane Ladakpan Ke takes the 10th spot with 5993 TVTs (last week 5152 TVTs).

For the record, the figures mentioned are approximate TVT figures. TVT is television viewership in 1000s (TVR in 1000). It is an average number of individuals in '000s that are available at any given minute of a programme/day part that is under consideration. It captures growth in TV audiences in the country in absolute numbers. The TVR system, in contrast, works on percentages.
