YouTube Rewind: Top videos of 2013

The list of top videos is a good reflection of the popular, fast growing and buzzing videos of the year and also gives a clear idea about the kind of video content an Indian consumer is looking for on the internet.

Close on the heels of releasing the most viewed India ads for 2013, Google India has unveiled its annual list of top trending videos and top music videos for the year 2013.

Called 'YouTube Rewind: What India watched in 2013', the list features movie trailers, short films, popular TV shows, cricket, made for web videos and nursery rhymes, which made it to the top 10 trending videos of the year on YouTube in India.

This list is formulated based on the total number of views generated by the video combined with shares, likes and comments it received. The list of top videos is a good reflection of the popular, fast growing and buzzing videos of the year and also give a clear idea about the kind of video content an Indian consumer is looking for on the internet.

The ones which trended:

Trailers of superhero movie Krrish 3, Dhoom 3 with Aamir Khan and a comedy short film in Telugu titled 'Viva' took the top slots of the trending videos of the year. Comedy Nights With Kapil, Top 10 best catches in cricket history, MTV Roadies and web-exclusive content line 'Gangs of Social Media' kept the audience glued to YouTube in 2013.

Indians watched Krrish 3 Trailer more than 19 million times, making it the top trending video of 2013. YouTube, however, hasn't disclosed any country-specific break-up in terms of views.

Among the top music videos watched in India in 2013, 'Jeene Laga Hoon' from the film Ramaiya Vastavaiya, sung by Atif Aslam and Shreya Ghoshal secured the top place with more than 15 million views so far.

If Bollywood ruled the charts, Hollywood movie trailers were also not lagging behind in India. The official trailer of the 2014 movie X-Men: Days of Future Past was the most watched Hollywood trailer, recording more than 22 million views.

Even short films were not to be left behind as some films with social messages also found their audience on YouTube. Titled The Viva (with English subtitles) by Sabarish Kandregula, this Telugu short film topped the list of most watched short films with more than 3 million views so far.

Among the most watched web-exclusive content, 'Gangs of Social Media : Valentine's Day Q-tiyapa', a spoof of the Bollywood movie 'Gangs of Wasseypur' by The Viral Fever secured more than 1.8 million views.

For kids content on YouTube, HooplaKidz topped the list of top kids channel securing more than 8 lakh subscribers. Hooplakidz is an online channel dedicated to animated nursery rhymes and stories designed to entertain and educate children in the age group of 2-8 years.

Besides animation, mobile gaming apps videos ruled the charts on YouTube in 2013. The Subway Surfers Google Play trailer topped the list with 32 million overall views so far.

Many 'How to' videos also found their viewers on YouTube in India. A video on Women Self Defense Techniques topped the list of most viewed 'How To' videos in a general category with more than 3 million views. Among the top 'How to' videos in the beauty category, 4 Cute Back to School Hair Styles topped with more than 2 million views.

In the top 'How to' videos in cooking category, Hyderabadi Chicken Biryani topped with more than 1 million views, while top 'How to' videos in fitness category featured a video titled '4 Yoga Poses to Reduce Belly Fat' at the top with more than 1 million views.
