STAR India picks Gurjeev Singh to head its international business

STAR India has appointed Gurjeev Singh as head of its international business.

Singh was chief operating officer of MediaPro and helped drive growth at the broadcaster's distribution joint venture (with ZEEL), MediaPro.

Singh will move to STAR International once the transition of MediaPro is complete. He will relocate to the United Kingdom.

For the record, in April 2014, Zee Turner and Star Den Media Services (Star Den) announced their intention to discontinue the distribution of their channels through the three-year old distribution joint venture MediaPro Enterprises India, pursuant to the change in regulation regarding aggregators.

According to STAR, as COO of MediaPro, Singh led the team to create an "extraordinarily successful venture" that grew the network's distribution footprint by accelerating digitisation and pushing the envelope on transparency. He is credited with shaping industry best practices for distribution as it moved from analog to digital.

Sanjay Gupta, COO, STAR India says that the international business has huge growth potential which has not yet been fully tapped and the network believes Singh will add value to the organisation and will build on the foundations that have been put in place, and take the international business to new heights. "Gurjeev shares our values and our focus on the business and he has proved to be an extraordinary leader throughout his stint with STAR and its ventures."

Commenting on his new role, Singh adds, "I am looking forward to be back into STAR's fold and delighted with the opportunity to expand our global footprint. STAR is uniquely placed to drive aggressive growth in the international markets based on its great content advantage."

A mechanical engineer, Singh also holds a Master's degree in Business Management from Faculty of Management Studies, Delhi University.

Before his role at MediaPro, Singh has had stints with ESPN-STAR Sports, where he handled various roles in sales, marketing and distribution of the channels in South Asian countries, SET Discovery and Star Den Media Services.
