GEC Watch: Zee TV gains viewership, courtesy 'Fear Files'

The channel added 40 GRPs this week; 'Fear Files' opened with 5.16 TVRs on April 25.

Zee TV, the flagship Hindi GEC from ZEEL, has added 40 GRPs in week 17 (April 25 to May 1), as per BARC data (HSM, NCCS All), to close the week at 348 GRPs. The channel stood at No. 4 with two of its shows in the top 10.

Star Plus continues to lead the pack with 518 GRPs, as compared to 490 GRPs in the previous week. Four of the channel's fiction shows appeared in the top 10 in the week ending May 1.

Colors follows with 413 GRPs. The channel has witnessed a decline in share compared to the previous week (438 GRPs), but managed to get three of its shows in the top ten.

At No. 3 is Star Plus' younger sibling Life OK with 374 GRPs in the latest week, as opposed to 363 GRPs in the last week.

Multi Screen Media channels, Sab TV and Sony Entertainment Television occupied the fifth and sixth spot with 235 GRPs (259 in the last week) and 221 GRPs (234 in the last week), respectively. Sab TV's 'Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashma' continues to be one of the top 10 most watched shows, even in BARC's universe.

&TV closed the week with 99 GRPs, down from previous week's 107.

Sony Pal and Zindagi concluded the week with 36 GRPs (last week 40) and 13 GRPs (last week 14).

A look at the top shows

The top two most watched shows in the genre are from Star Plus - 'Saathiya Saath Nibhana' (8.3 TVRs) and 'Yeh Hai Mohabbatein' (7.2 TVRs). These are followed by Zee TV's 'Kumkum Bhagya' that clocked 6 TVRs in the week.

At the fourth and fifth spot are Star Plus' shows 'Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai' and 'Suhani Si Ek Ladki', with 5.69 and 5.48 TVRs respectively, as per BARC's second week ratings.

Colors' 'Meri Aashiqui Tumse Hi' (5.41 TVRs) and 'Sasural Simar Ka' (5.28 TVRs) are at No. 6 and 7 respectively.

At No. 8 is 'Fear Files', which opened with 5.16 TVRs on Zee TV, followed by Colors' 'India's Got Talent' (4.98 TVRs) and 'Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashma' (4.79 TVRs).

A look at TAM's viewership numbers for week 18 (April 26 to May 2)

While almost everyone in the industry has started referring to the data shared by the new ratings agency in India, TAM, the older agency, continues to share its set of viewership ratings.

Individual data (HSM, C&S, 4+)

As per TAM, Star Plus garnered 239 GRPs in the latest week, compared to 227 GRPs in the previous week. Colors ended the week with 198 GRPs (last week 202 GRPs).

Zee TV clocked 164 GRPs in the week (last week 161 GRPs), while Life OK managed to garner 138 GRPs, as against 128 GRPs last week.

Sab TV and SET concluded the week with 126 GRPs (last week 127) and 100 GRPs (last week 111GRPs), respectively. &TV almost retained its share with 50 GRPs.

Star Utsav recorded 28 GRPs (last week 30), Zee Anmol recorded 27 GRPs (last week 30), Rishtey registered 25 GRPs (last week 21) and Sony Pal clocked 23 GRPs (same as last week).

Big Magic ended the week with 14 GRPs (last week 15 GRPs), whereas Zindagi and Epic garnered 9 GRPs and 5 GRPs, respectively.

Household data (HSM, C&S, HHs)

Star Plus grossed 565 GRPs, as per the household data from TAM, as compared to 549 GRPs in the previous week. It's followed by Colors and Zee TV which garnered 458 GRPs (last week 471) and 362 GRPs (last week 368), respectively.

At No. 4 is Life OK that ended the week with 328 GRPs (last week 314). Sab TV clocked 274 GRPs (last week 278), while Sony recorded 219 GRPs (last week 247).

&TV ended the week with 113 GRPs (last week 119).

Star Utsav ended the week with 55 GRPs (last week 60), Zee Anmol with 57 GRPs (last week 62), Rishtey with 52 GRPs (last week 47) and Sony Pal with 50 GRPs (last week 49).

Big Magic concluded the week with 29 GRPs (last week 31). Zindagi and Epic recorded 21 GRPs (last week 23) and 14 GRPs (last week 15), respectively.
