The Hindu's editor, Malini Parthasarathy, told The Huffington Post India that the edition will have more lifestyle and entertainment content, and the decision of launching the new edition was led by its readers and advertisers.

While the newspaper has been operational for 137 years, it comes to the commercial capital of the country only now. It will compete with other English dailies such as The Times of India, Hindustan Times and DNA.

Currently, the newspaper prints 17 editions (namely Coimbatore, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Madurai, Noida, Vishakhapatnam, Thiruvanathapuram, Kochi, Vijayawada, Mangalore, Tiruchirapalli, Kolkata, Hubli, Mohali, Allahabad and Kozhikode), across eight states. The daily claims to have a readership of 22.58 lakh.
