Zee announces reorganisation; Subhash Chandra back at the helm

It's official now. Subhash Chandra, the promoter of the Zee group, has assumed full charge of the day-to-day operations at Zee Telefilms, the group's flagship company. In a statement issued late last night by the company, the new order at Zee was spelled out as thus: "Zee Telefilms today announced that Subhash Chandra, chairman, Zee Telefilms, will directly provide leadership to a three-pronged strategic direction chalked out by the company."

Alongside, Group broadcasting CEO Sandeep Goyal has been redesignated as advisor to the Zee Network. For the time being, Goyal will be on a sabbatical, while Chandra settles down on the saddle.

According to the press statement, Chandra will support and guide the core team comprising Apurva Purohit, president of Zee TV, Prashant Sanwal, director of the Alpha channels, Laxmi N Goel, director, Zee News, Yogesh Radhakrishnan, director, Zee Music and Zee Cinema, Jagjit Singh Kohli, director, ETC brands, and Ajay Trigunayat, vice-president, Zee English and Zee MGM.

According to Zee, "this move is aimed at focusing on programming excellence, multi-pillar channel approach built around the Zee TV flagship and building operational efficiencies to drive shareholder value." In the press statement Chandra was quoted as saying, "Sandeep brought new energy into the channel and I am pleased that he will continue to be available to Zee for any help or advice."

The official statement more or less confirms the rumours - about Sandeep Goyal's role in the new scheme of things at Zee - doing their rounds over the past few weeks after the group unleashed another round of reorganisation late last month. Following that Chandra took over hands-on control of Zee Telefimls and the management in the company shifted back to a family-run model.
