The period from November 7 to December 4 saw Microsoft continue its reign as the No 1 Company on Cirrus Image Index. Cirrus is an image monitor from agencyfaqs!, that tracks the image (positive coverage minus negative coverage) of over 1,100 companies in the media. Microsoft had gained the Top Spot on Cirrus following the widely covered visit of Bill Gates to India in early November.

The Cirrus 100 index, which lists the Top 100 companies in Cirrus in terms of image garnered, saw five new entrants this month - BBC World, Canara Bank, Bank Of Baroda, Sun Micro Systems and Kinetic Engineering. BBC World entered Cirrus 100 straight in at No 82. The event that helped the company gain image points was the visit to India by Tim Sebastian, host of the popular programme HardTalk on BBC World.

Idea Cellular, Standard Chartered, Doordarshan and Larsen & Toubro were some of the other companies that did well on Cirrus 100 during this period. Idea Cellular gained 20 ranks on the index (up from No 86 to No 66), Standard Chartered rose 14 places (from No 94 to No 80) and Doordarshan gained 14 ranks (from No 90 to No 76). L & T did well on the Cirrus index rising 13 spots to No 28. The company has been in the news owing to its tussle with Grasim Industries. The latter also gained on the index due to the clash with L & T, jumping nine places to No 60.

Bharti Televentures and IBP were the biggest losers on the Cirrus 100 index this month. Bharti slipped 16 ranks to No 90 while IBP fell 15 spots to No 79. Dr Reddys, Reliance Petroleum and

Tata Power were among the other companies which faced significant loss on the index during this period.
