HLL retail head Upamanyu Bhattacharya joins TruMart as CEO

Piramyd Retail Ltd (PRL), a part of the Ashok Piramal Group, has appointed Upamanyu Bhattacharya CEO of TruMart. Bhattacharya has moved from Hindustan Lever Ltd (HLL), where he was business head for Sangam Direct, a HLL retail venture.

During his stint at HLL, Bhattacharya crafted his success story by bringing about a tripling of sales in a couple of years through marketing and call centre innovations.

Bhattacharya’s task at TruMart will be to chart out growth strategies and lead his company to further growth and expansion in other markets and to exploit the opportunities thrown open by the retail (groceries) segment.

Led by Nandan Piramal, Piramyd Retail has a strong presence in lifestyle retail (Piramyd Megastores) and food, home and personal care (TruMart stores).

The company has seven Piramyd Megastores in six cities and 13 TruMart stores in five cities in India, with operations spread across 4,00,000 sq. ft.

Bhattacharya brings with him a decade of experience in the retail and allied sectors and has worked with Shoppers’ Stop, Sony Music Entertainment (I) Ltd and Rediff.com in the past.
