INCommunications shuts shop; Charu Bakshi moves to Law & Kenneth, Delhi

Bakshi will head Law & Kenneth’s recently launched Delhi office

Charu Bakshi, who was one of the founding members of Delhi based advertising agency INCommunications, has moved to Law & Kenneth as head of its Delhi branch.

Commenting on her decision to move beyond INCommunications, Bakshi says, “INC was a shared dream which I decided to wind up.” In April 2003, Bakshi, Indranil Chatterjee and Nikhil Nehru teamed up to form INCommunications. But then Chatterjee passed away and Nehru began looking for options beyond INC; meanwhile, Bakshi ran the agency single-handedly.

Law & Kenneth came into existence after Praveen Kenneth of St Luke’s entered into a partnership with Andy Law. After establishing a strong presence in the Mumbai advertising circle, Law & Kenneth has now arrived in Delhi.

Confirming this latest development, Anil Nair, COO, Law & Kenneth, says, “The Delhi office will be a full-fledged entity on its own. It is an extended arm for our clients following the same philosophy that we have adhered to in Mumbai. We have adopted the partner approach with our clients and support them in all parts of the marketing spectrum; we don’t restrict ourselves to being vendors of advertising services.”

On the reason and timing behind opening an office in Delhi, Nair says, “Delhi is an important and robust market with tremendous growth opportunities and this we believe is the right time to make our presence felt.” The move also makes business sense for Law & Kenneth has just won two new businesses, Ray-Ban and JVC.

The agency has hired 22 professionals, eight in servicing and ten in the creative department. It plans to continue with its recruitment process for some time now.

Law & Kenneth also plans to foray into below-the-line activities besides mass media advertising.

Bakshi has been in the industry for around 20 years and has worked for agencies such as Ogilvy & Mather, Grey Worldwide and Confluence Communications before starting INC. She says she decided to take on the job at Kenneth & Law because she found it professionally challenging.

When asked about the goal set for the Delhi agency in the next three months, she says, “Let’s allow our work to do the talking because anything else would be mere lip service.”
