Giri moves on from O&M

After spending more than a decade with one of the largest agencies in the country, sources confirm that Giri will not go too far from advertising in his next job

JC Giri, president, O&M Mumbai, has put in his papers and is currently serving out his notice. He was overseeing all of Ogilvy’s divisions from the agency’s largest office in the country at Mumbai. These divisions include O&M and OgilvyAction (formerly OgilvyActivation).

Giri began his career in advertising with Vantage Advertising, a Chennai based agency, in 1993. Two years later, he moved to O&M. Back then, he definitely did not think he would be spending a major part of his career at the agency.

He joined O&M Chennai as a media executive in 1995, when the media function was an integral part of the agency’s day to day functioning. In 1997, he relocated to Mumbai as a senior consultant, looking after Unilever, one of the most significant businesses for the agency.

He took over as the national head for Ogilvy Landscapes, which is the outdoor specialist unit of Ogilvy, in 2000. In three years, he took over as the country head for Ogilvy Activation (now OgilvyAction), which collectively comprises the units, Ogilvy Live (ground level communication), Ogilvy Outreach (rural communication), Ogilvy Landscapes (outdoor), Ogilvy Sports (sports marketing consultancy, property representation and sales, licensing and merchandising, new media and event management) and Ogilvy Signscapes (professional outdoor media unit, offering complete retail design solutions). In 2005, he took over as president of the operations of all divisions of the Mumbai branch.

Giri refused to comment on his next destination. Sources from the industry confirm that he will not go too far from the advertising industry.
