STAR India’s mobile service Plus will feature text and video content from these international companies, and also India’s Zoom TV and MyIris.com

Plus, STAR India’s mobile content service, has tied up with three international media companies, UK publication ‘The Sun’, US-based Fox News TV and the National Geographic Channel (NGC). Plus has also tied up with two Indian media companies, Bennett, Coleman & Co.’s lifestyle TV channel, Zoom TV, and the financial news and data website, MyIris.com. The Plus mobile entertainment package is a free mobile application which can be downloaded and installed on a mobile phone with no subscription fee, except for GPRS network charges.

Under the partnership, ‘The Sun’ will provide Plus users with lifestyle content. NGC will provide specialised content such as special animal ringtones. Fox News will provide international news, both text and video. Zoom TV will offer Bollywood news, animation, wallpapers and videos. MyIris.com will provide financial news, company news and market data, all updated in real time. Users can also research the stock market, including upcoming IPOs and mutual funds. Initially, the stocks research service will be available free of charge, but a fee may be charged later.

Speaking to agencyfaqs!, Viren Popli, senior vice-president, STAR Mobile Entertainment, said that there were no plans to monetise the Plus service immediately. But he added, “In another three-four months, depending upon the market conditions and if the advertisers show interest, we will look at introducing ads on Plus.”

Popli added that Plus will not be promoted on STAR network channels as the mobile service is a separate entity.
