DealsAndYou.com appoints Shilpa Taneja as marketing lead

E-commerce portal, DealsAndYou.com, has appointed Shilpa Taneja as marketing lead. Prior to this, she was the marketing manager at Microsoft India. Taneja will be based out of Gurgaon and will report to Guneet Singh, director and co-founder, DealsAndYou.com.

Taneja has about eight years of work experience. Of that, she has spent around five years at Microsoft India, where she was part of the digital marketing team. She was involved in the marketing of Internet Explorer and Windows Mobile.

The e-commerce firm plans to expand its presence to the top 10 cities in India by the end of this year. Currently, DealsAndYou.com offers its services in Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru.

Deals and You presents a daily 'deal of the day', with huge discounts of up to 80 per cent on lifestyle-related services, such as restaurants and hotel accommodations. The site works on the concept of 'hyper-local' and 'collective bargaining'. It usually presents deals to its members in their nearby areas. Thus, different deals are offered to members based on the locations from where they log on to the site.

The discount deals on services are usually open for a certain time period, for instance, 24-60 hours. To avail a discount, a member has to first express interest in the deal of the day. However, whether he would get the deal or not is a function of the number of members who express interest in that deal. The deal can be availed by interested members only when a minimum number of members (critical mass) apply for it.
