'Andhra Jyothi' registers 30.5 per cent growth in circulation

The circulation of Telugu dailies has been growing steadily in Andhra Pradesh

‘Andhra Jyothi’, the regional daily from Andhra Pradesh, has recorded an unprecedented growth of 30.5 per cent in the last one year, according to ABC (July-December 2005). The daily was selling around 81,000 copies more across all its editions in the period of July-December 2005 as compared to July-December 2004.

The average net paid sales of the daily has increased from 2,68,560 copies in July-December 2004 to 3,50,494 copies in July-December 2005.

However, ‘Eenadu’ remains Andhra Pradesh’s No. 1 Telugu daily. ‘Eenadu’ has also upped its average net paid sales from 9,85,278 in July-December 2004 to 10,50,659 copies in July-December 2005, witnessing an increase of 65,381 copies.

‘Andhra Bhoomi’, another regional daily in the state, is not far behind. It has upped its average net paid sales by 22.38 per cent in the period from 83,772 copies in July-December 2004 to 1,02,517 copies in July-December 2005. The daily has editions in Anantapur, Hyderabad, Karimnagar, Nellore, Rajahmundry, Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam.

The other main player in the Andhra market is ‘Vaartha’, which lost its ABC certificate three years ago.

‘Andhra Jyothi’, published by Aamoda Publications Pvt. Ltd, boasts of 18 editions in Andhra Pradesh – Hyderabad, Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam, Karimnagar, Tirupathi, Ananthapur, Tanuku, Warangal, Guntur, Kurnool, Nellore, Srikakulam, Kakinada, Kadapa, Ongole, Nalgonda and Nizamabad. It also editions in Chennai and Bangalore.

According to AS Raghunath, media consultant, ‘Andhra Jyothi’, “The paper is planning to launch a communication assault to publicise the brand, as we have the ABC figures now to prove our success.”

Raghunath explains, “‘Andhra Jyothi’ turned its focus on the youth at the right time. It is global in its approach and it has a clean layout with bulleted points to make it reader-friendly.”

‘Eenadu’, from the Ramoji group, currently boasts of Telugu editions in Anantapur, Bangalore, Chennai, Cuddapah, Mumbai, Guntur, Hyderabad, Karimnagar, Khammam, Kurnool, Mahaboobnagar , Nellore, New Delhi, Nizamabad, Ongole, Rajahmundry, Srikakulam, Suryapet, Tadepallygudem, Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam and Warangal. The group has also ventured into the broadcast medium with ETV, its satellite channel.
