Delhi tabloid 'Today' plans to turn into a morning broadsheet

Plans to launch by the third quarter of 2006

‘Today’, the afternoon tabloid from the India Today Group, is planning to transform into a morning broadsheet. According to an informed industry source, the group is planning to invest around Rs 100-150 crore in the makeover.

Executives at ‘India Today’ refuse to reveal any details, confirming only that the company will be ready to talk about it by the end of April.

Industry sources reveal that the newspaper will hit the stands around November 2006. Currently, the group is still in the research and planning stage.

It is learnt that ‘Today’ is also looking for an international partner for content tie-up. However, the company is yet to take a decision on this.

Besides changing the size of the newspaper, the daily will also increase the number of pages from 16 to 20.

The recruitment process is set to begin soon once the details on the project are worked out.

Besides ‘Today’, the India Today Group currently houses mega magazine brand ‘India Today’, ‘Business Today’, ‘Good Housekeeping’, ‘Cosmopolitan’ and ‘Golf Digest India’.
