The ‘McVatican’ is now open despite protests from locals
A McDonald's outlet has opened in a Vatican-owned building in the Pio Borgo district of Rome, about 100 yards from the Vatican State. Despite protests from locals and top clerics, the restaurant opened its doors to the public albeit in low key.
Plans for the restaurant, dubbed by netizens as the ‘McVatican’ were made public in October.
The branch is located just meters from St. Peter's Square, and occupies the bottom floor of a building that is also home to several senior cardinals, the Catholic Press Agency has reported.
