Satyajit Sen quits MediaCom; to head Delhi branch of Maximize

Satyajit Sen will join Maximize, Delhi, as general manger

Looks like this is the season for severing old ties for some and new opportunities for others. Nikhil Nehru (McCann-Erickson), Sandeep Goyal (Zee), Rajiv Karwal (Philips), Ram Sundar (Electrolux Kelvinator), Preet Bedi (Lowe)…

The latest is Satyajit Sen. Sen, who was overseeing the Delhi operations of MediaCom (the media division of Grey Worldwide) as associate vice-president for three years, has put in his papers. He is going to take on his new responsibility of heading Maximize, Delhi, as the general manager "some time in December". While Sen was not available for comment, Basab Sarkar, managing director, Maximize India, confirmed his appointment.

Sarkar says there was a "clear need for a branch (Delhi) head" at Maximize. "Maximize has been growing at a fast pace. Today, the Delhi branch generates billings of Rs 150 crore. So far I have been looking after the Delhi operations in addition to my job of handling Maximize across India. So we needed someone to focus on the Delhi branch," he states.

Sen's mandate is quite clear. To grow the business and, of course, nurture the existing clients - such as Escorts, Domino's, Hero Puch etc. Over the next one year, the media agency hopes to increase its billings by 20-25 per cent. And that is not an easy task.

Is Satyajit Sen prepared for the challenge? Perhaps his long-standing experience in the media industry will stand him in good stead. When he joined MediaCom in early 2000, the agency's billings stood at Rs 50 crore; three years on it stands at Rs 80 crore. Before MediaCom, Sen has worked with FCB-Ulka, Delhi, where he started his career as a media-planning executive in 1990. Thereafter he worked at O&M (Delhi), and Rediffusion DY&R (Delhi) before settling down in Grey Worldwide. © 2002 agencyfaqs!
