Sanjay Samson, business head, ‘Lokmat’, quits

After 11 years at ‘Lokmat’, Samson is moving to ‘Divya Bhaskar’ as DGM, marketing

Sanjay Samson, business head of the Lokmat Group, has put in his papers. He is moving to ‘Divya Bhaskar’ as deputy general manager, marketing, by mid-September.

Confirming the development to agencyfaqs!, Samson said, “I got this offer about four months ago. Since I have been operating in the Maharashtra market for more than a decade now, it is time for me to try and grapple with the dynamics of an altogether different market – Gujarat.”

Samson sees the new market and the fact that ‘Divya Bhaskar’ has been in it for only two and a half years or so both as an opportunity and a challenge. “When I joined ‘Lokmat’, it was just as old in Mumbai as ‘Divya Bhaskar’ is now in Gujarat. Now, ‘Lokmat’ has a monopoly in the Mumbai market; I hope to create the same kind of magic in Gujarat with ‘Divya Bhaskar’, which has great potential,” he says, adding, “I learnt the tricks of the trade at ‘Lokmat’. Now, it’s time to use them in my new assignment.”

Samson has been associated with the Lokmat Group for the past 11 years. Before that, he used to work with the ‘Indian Express’, Mumbai.

The Lokmat Group is India’s largest Marathi newspaper group and ‘Divya Bhaskar’ is the Bhaskar Group’s Gujarati daily, which was launched in 2003.
