Colleges will tussle in Zee Smile’s new game show

The channel is all set to launch a new show, ‘Khiladi No. 1’, from December 16, in which two colleges will compete for prizes in every episode

Zee Smile is all set to launch what the channel executives call ‘the craziest game show’ from December 16, 2005. The new show, ‘Khiladi No. 1’, is a 30-minute show and will air on Fridays at 7:30 pm. The show is being be produced by Maverick Productions and will be hosted by Samir Kocchar of ‘Dangerous’ (Zoom) fame. The show will feature the students of two colleges who will battle it out by playing ‘crazy’ games and winning prizes in the process.

Nitin Vaidya, business head, Zee Smile, remarks, “This show is a very interesting game show between two colleges for our younger set of viewers. We have chosen Kocchar to host the show because he is a very talented actor and model and has hosted several shows in the past. We are confident that the show will be well received.”

‘Khiladi No. 1’ will be a contest between two rival colleges, where the champions from each college will play wacky and offbeat games. Four to six finalists will compete for the final event, and the winning team in every episode will receive a cash prize of Rs 10,000, along with a belt (much like the World Wrestling Entertainment belt), a sign of the ‘Khiladi No. 1’.

Gareth Eswin Thomas, senior marketing manager, Zee Smile, says that the show will cater primarily to young viewers in the age group of 16 years and above, but it can also attract the entire family.

“All of us, when we were in college, always wanted to take on rival colleges in inter-collegiate competitions. This show is a sort of an extension of that. We are not only pitching two colleges against each other, we will also show behind-the-scene activities such as interactions with the principals and professors of the colleges,” explains Thomas.

Zee Network is running promos on all its channels and has launched an outdoor campaign in select cities.

The channel has also tied up with Red FM. Under the agreement, Red FM has launched a ‘Notice Board’, whereby college students can nominate who they think should participate in the show. Some select radio jockeys will also be present at the shoot, giving live comments on air about the show’s developments. These comments will be broadcast in Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata. Besides, an online contest has also been launched on contests2win.com, to create greater awareness about the show.
