Javed Akhter of ‘Indian Express’ joins GroupM as investment group head

At GroupM, Akhter will be responsible for buying and selling in the print and radio sectors

Javed Akhter, manager, account planning, Indian Express Group, has joined GroupM as investment group head. At GroupM, Akhter will be responsible for buying and selling in the print and radio sectors.

Based in Delhi, Akhter will report to Alok Sanwal, who is director, GroupM, north and east. Akhter has spent more than nine years in the media industry, with two years at ‘The Hindu’ before joining ‘The Indian Express’, where he spent around three years. In between, he has also worked with the Hindi newspaper, ‘Amar Ujala’, for four years.

On his stint with ‘The Indian Express’, Akhter reminisces, “It was a fantastic experience for me. In terms of learning, the platform that ‘Express’ provided me cannot be equalled.” He adds, “But eventually, I had to move on and GroupM provided me a bigger opportunity for my own personal and professional growth.”

For the record, Maxus, MindShare, MindShare Fulcrum, MediaCom, Motivator and Mediaedge:cia are the media divisions that GroupM currently owns.

Akhter is a graduate in commerce from the Jamia Milia Islamia University and he also holds an MBA degree.
