Dutt, with an experience of about two and a half decades, has worked in sales and marketing for various categories
Sunil Dutt, country manager, Samsung India, has moved on. He is all set to join Hewlett-Packard as vice-president and country head for the personal systems group (PSG) of the company. He will begin his new assignment in a month from now.
A marketing veteran, Dutt has been in the industry for about two-and-a-half decades. After completing his MBA, his first job was with Philips India, where he worked for about eight years, in a series of sales and marketing roles.
Next on the anvil was Barista, where he joined as head of operations in 2001, and was there for about a year.
In 2001, he joined Nokia for a five-year stint, stepping down as sales director. The stint in Samsung followed. Taking into account his experience with Nokia and Samsung, Dutt has spent about eight years in the telecom sector.
When asked the obvious question about which he preferred more -- Nokia or Samsung, he replies, "I can't choose between the two at all. I've had my set of experiences at each."
"Distribution tactics is what I picked up from Philips; Wipro being an entrepreneurial setup, had a different experience altogether. Barista taught me how to attract the customer at the point of retail. And Whirlpool, being an MNC, taught me the issue of tackling scale -- scale of operations, in line with global processes. Nokia taught me innovation in product and distribution," he sums up.
