Euro’s Unni takes over as creative chief, McCann, Bangalore

Sujit Unni, creative director, Euro RSCG, Delhi, has moved to McCann Erickson, Bangalore, and will take charge as creative chief there. Unni had been with Euro RSCG for the last two years. He had joined the agency’s Mumbai branch in April 2005, but was later shifted to the Delhi branch when the agency bagged the Reckitt Benckiser business.

At Euro RSCG, Unni reported to Satbir Singh, who is now the chief creative officer. Unni had earlier worked with Singh at Ogilvy on the LG account.

He sees McCann Erickson as a better and stronger opportunity. A drummer and an avid musician, Unni started his advertising career with MAA Bozell in 1997. Two years later, he moved to TBWA India (then TBWA Anthem), before moving to O&M in 2000. He spent six years at the agency and formed a partnership with Santosh Patil. The two together produced a fair amount of work for clients such as CPAA, STAR TV and Playwin.

Unni has even worked with Prasoon Joshi, executive chairman, McCann Erickson India – to whom he will report at McCann – in the past, while both were at Ogilvy.

“I have seen Sujit’s work while we were together at O&M; it will be great to work with him again,” Joshi says.

“I am confident that Sujit with his expertise and passion will lead and elevate our Bangalore creative product to an even more stimulating and revitalised platform,” he adds.

Unni claims that it’s the freedom associated with Joshi that has drawn him to McCann: “There are at least 20 creative guys at the Bangalore branch, and I am supposed to build up this team. This is one of the reasons I chose to relocate to Bangalore. Besides, Prasoon gives (his people) a free hand, which again is a major attraction.”

Unni has in the past worked on brands such as STAR TV, Tata Motors, Playwin, Castrol, ICICI Bank, Harpic, MindTree and Good Year. He has also garnered recognition at several award forums, including the Abbys, Young Guns and Cannes.
