CNBC-TV18 launches sequel to ‘Wizards of Dalal Street’

The sequel is titled ‘Oriental and Occidental’ and features interviews with the best global investment wizards, who are discovering India as an investment haven

CNBC-TV18 has launched a sequel to its popular show, ‘Wizards of Dalal Street’. The new show, ‘Oriental and Occidental’, goes on air from today and will be telecast every Monday at 10:30 pm.

The show will feature interviews with some of the most successful people in the global financial markets such as Mark Mobius, president, Templeton Emerging Markets, Stephen Roach, chief economic analyst, Morgan Stanley, Ayaz Ebrahim, CEO, Asia Pacific, HSBC Halbis Partners, and Marc Faber, who is famous for his ‘contrarian’ approach to investment.

Ajay Chacko, head, marketing, CNBC-TV18, talks about the strategy behind the new show, saying, “The unique part of the programme is the line-up of eminent professionals it will feature. These are all stalwarts in the investment business and have carved a space for themselves on the global map. The programme addresses both the first-time investor and the seasoned investor. The language, style and format of the show are easy to comprehend and offer a comprehensive insight into the financial industry.”

‘Oriental and Occidental’ will be a series of 12 episodes, anchored by investment expert Ramesh Damani. The show aims to highlight the financial expertise of the internationally acclaimed financial gurus, giving its viewers a glimpse of what transformed Dalal Street from a financial backwater to a leading emerging market destination. The show will throw light on the success patterns, theories, investment philosophies and viewpoints of the global investment analysts.

Each episode will trace a particular investment analyst’s initial journey in the financial market, trace the defining moves of his career and investigate his style of trading. The experts will then give their ideas on how to sniff out undervalued companies and convert them into virtual goldmines.

The show has been formulated with the aim of highlighting how the Indian financial markets are now attracting all the right kind of attention and the changing investor attitudes toward Asian markets. It will give tips on how to spot lucrative investment opportunities.

Chacko adds, “This show is especially relevant in India because so many potential future investors stay away from the financial space due to the misconceptions they have about the industry. For instance, a majority of the retail investors don’t know where India stands on the global map, nor are they aware of what’s happening abroad. This show aims to change all that through its informative format.”

In addition, CNBC-TV18 has planned three special year-end shows, ‘Crumbling Infrastructure’ (dealing with the politicisation of infrastructure and how it has impacted cities in India), ‘India Inc’ (which will touch on the newsmakers of 2005) and ‘Consumer is King’ (dealing with the Indian economy and increasing consumer choices).
