‘Cricinfo’ hits the stands today

The first issue has 124 pages, with a special 32-page preview supplement on the eagerly anticipated India-Pakistan series

‘CricInfo’, the niche magazine published by the Infomedia India Group under a licence agreement with the Wisden Group, will hit the stands today. A monthly title, the magazine is aimed primarily at Indian readers, both in India and abroad.

Prakash Iyer, MD, Infomedia India, says, “Indians are extremely passionate about cricket, but there is an acute dearth of a specialist magazine catering to cricket. Our primary objective is to bridge this gap between cricket lovers and news and information on cricket.”

The first issue of ‘CricInfo’ has 124 pages, with a special 32-page preview supplement on the eagerly anticipated India-Pakistan series. Other features in the issue include a wide-ranging conversation with Indian captain Rahul Dravid and an interview in which Greg Chappell talks about his methods and tactics for the game.

In addition, there’s a special 20-page feature on fast bowling down the years, in which the likes of Wasim Akram, Allan Donald, Wes Hall, Shoaib Akhtar, Javagal Srinath, John Snow and Andy Roberts talk about their craft.

The magazine consists of five main features. ‘Shots of the Month’ offers a selection of the best photographs from the month gone by. ‘The Score’ features short interviews (the inaugural issue features Simon Taufel and Dwayne Bravo), columns, quotes, stats, trivia, off-beat pieces and humour based articles.

The middle section presents essays, long interviews, profiles and other features. ‘Replay’ revisits the previous month’s on-field action, with an emphasis on the bigger picture rather than rote match reports. ‘Pavilion’ serves up a palette of reflective articles, reviews and features that captures the beauty and romance of the game of cricket.

‘Cricinfo’, priced at Rs 40, is edited by Sambit Bal and produced by the editorial team of Wisden Asia Cricket. It will contain regular features written by Harsha Bhogle, Sanjay Manjrekar, Mukul Kesavan, Peter Roebuck and Gideon Haigh.
