Cricket puts DD Sports on top of C&S weekly 100

The India-Australia match on November 18 shoved down the K triumvirate of Kyunki, Kahaani and Kasauti to put DD Sports on top of the C&S weekly stakes

As the Australian team won the toss and its openers took guard at Eden Gardens, Kolkata, on November 18, to face the Indian team at the finals of the TVS Cup, the bahus of Indian television must have crossed their fingers in collective premonition.

Their apprehension, and that of their maker Balaji Telefilms, have been proved right by the latest set of TAM data for the week November 16-22. The match shoved the K triumvirate of Kyunki, Kahaani and Kasauti (all STAR Plus shows) - that have, turn by turn, held the top slot on TAM Top 100 for the past several months - to put DD Sports on top of the C&S weekly stakes. The match figures twice among the Top 10 - at No 1 with a TVR of 12.8 and again at No 8 with a TVR of 8.6.

The same match has also catapulted DD1 among the TAM Top 50. The state-owned channel comes in at Nos 27 and 44 with TVRs of 5.1 and 3.9 respectively.

The mother of all soaps Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi comes in at Nos 2, 3, 6, and 7 with TVRs of 11, 10.1, 9.5 and 9; Kahaani Ghar Ghar Ki comes in at Nos 4 and 10 with TVRs of 10 and 8.4; Kasautii Zindagii Kay makes a lone appearance mid-way among the Top 10 - at No 5 with a TVR of 9.5. At No 9 is hospital-turned-family drama Sanjivani with a score of 8.5.

Interestingly, Aroona Irani-produced STAR Plus show Des Mein Nikkla Hoga Chand, which shot to the top of the C&S 100 in the week of June 15-21, 2003, has declined steadily since then. In the latest week it stands at No 15 with a TVR of 7.6.

Besides cricket, there seems to be very little competition to STAR Plus - like any other week. Among the mainline Hindi entertainment channels, Sony enters the Top 100 stakes at Nos 41 (TVR: 3.9), 56 (TVR: 3.3) and 59 (3.2) with its show Jassi Jaissi Koi Nahin. The channel shows up again at No 64 (TVR: 3.1) with Devi, at 69 (TVR: 2.9), 73 (TVR: 2.8) and 93 (TVR: 2.5) with Kya Hadsaa Kya Haqeekat, and at No 100 (TVR: 2.4) with Kkusum. The lone representative for ZEE TV this week is Hindi feature film Hungama at No 47 with TVR of 3.7.

Among the south brigade, SUN TV has nine shows among the Top 100. These include Metty Oli (that enters first at No 31), Annamalai (which makes its first appearance at 53), Appa, which enters twice at Nos 66 and 75, Sun Saithegal, which appears at 71, Vikkiramadhitan shows up at 78, Velan comes in at No 80, Chinna Paapa Periya Raap at No 89, Sorkkam at 97 and Varam at 98. © 2003 agencyfaqs!
