Indian channels shine bright at PROMAX & BDA Asia 2005 with 20 awards

Channel [V] topped the list with five golds and one silver

Indian television channels walked away with quite a few awards at the PROMAX & BDA Asia 2005 awards show. Channel [V] topped the list of winning Indian channels with five golds and one silver.

The music channel won the golds for Best In House Station Image Promo and Best Comedy Promo (both for ‘[V] Gyaan Phart Silencer’), Best Interactive Promo (for ‘Scooty Get Colourful’), Best Promo Not Using Programme Footage (for ‘Ringtone TV’) and the Star Rocket Award given to Manish Sehrawat. Channel [V] also bagged a silver for Best In House Station Image Promo (for ‘[V] Gyaan-Seedha Sar’).

Amar Deb, head honcho, Channel [V], says, “We launched a contest called ‘Scooty Get Colourful’ for our client, TVS Scooty. We showed a sad-looking woman. We even gave her a name, Manorama. We showed her in depressive settings, telling our viewers that the colour had gone from her life. We then posed a question for the viewers – why they thought Manorama was sad – and invited them to send in their entries. The most creative entries bagged TVS Scootys.”

Deb comments on the ‘Channel [V] Phart Silencer’, which bagged two golds: “The ‘Phart Silencer’ is an innovative tool that we came up with for our client, Mentos. Also described as the light of the brain, the ‘Phart Silencer’ sends reverse noise waves back to offending sounds, thus equating the two.”

MTV India wasn’t far behind its musical competitor with two golds and two silvers. The channel’s Kanon Kumar bagged two golds for Best Script and Best PSA Award. The channel also won two silvers for ‘OTS Panju Aunty’ in the Funniest Spot category and for ‘Immies Devotional’ in the Best Promo Not Using Programme Footage category.

STAR India bagged two golds for ‘Cover Story Rewind’ in the Best News/ Current Affairs Promo category and ‘Cook Na Kaho Packaging’ in the Best Editing category.

The other channels to win golds are TV18 India Ltd and SET MAX. While TV18 bagged a gold for ‘Car Lover’ in the Best Special Event Promo category, SETMAX got its gold in the Best Out-of-House Station Promo category for ‘Look-a-Like’.

The silver list includes Zee Telefilms, which bagged two silvers in the categories, Best Movie Promo (for ‘Kill Bill Wedding Vows’) and Best Movie Campaign (for ‘The Monster’ campaign). ETC Networks also got a silver in the category, Best Comedy Promo, for its ‘Nautanki’ promo.

The Walt Disney Company India bagged a silver for ‘Blackboard’ in the Something For Nothing category.

Bennett Coleman & Co. Ltd and STAR News (Media Content and Communication Services India) also bagged a silver each, in the Best PSA Award category (for ‘AIDS and Literacy’) and Best News/ Current Affairs Promo category (for ‘Kaun Banega Mukhyamantri’), respectively.
