Noshir Desai moves from Quadrant to Kopran; Rajan Narayan takes over

Desai, who joined Quadrant four years ago, will soon join Kopran Pharmaceutical as president

Noshir Desai, president, Quadrant Communications, has decided to move on. He is joining Kopran Pharmaceutical, where he will partner the company in growing the OTC consumer healthcare brand, Smyle. He hopes to take its worth to more than Rs 100 crore.

Meanwhile, Quadrant’s vice-president, Rajan Narayan, will take over in Desai’s place and will be designated general manager.

Confirming these developments and elaborating on his move, Desai says, “I enjoyed myself at Quadrant and I hope to use my experience and knowledge from the ad industry in the pharma sector as well. This sector is growing rapidly and is one of the top industries driving the Indian economy, along with IT and automobiles.”

Desai explains that Kopran Pharmaceutical plans on acquiring the status of a global pharma company soon. In fact, the international finance company, Clearwater Capital, recently became an investing partner in Kopran.

While Desai was at Quadrant, the agency bagged some key businesses such as Voltas Corporate, Godrej FairGlow Soap, Kelvinator Refrigerators and Tata Motors Regional.

Desai started out as an account executive at Lowe (earlier Lintas), and left the agency after a decade as a director on the management committee. He went on to join the UTV Group, where he set up its post-production studio, United Studio. He also set up the animation division there.

After spending four years at UTV, he went on to join Rediffusion DY&R. He headed the Mumbai operations there for a brief while before he moved to Quadrant.

Desai says that he is satisfied with the team that he is leaving behind at Quadrant; the team includes Aniruddha Oka, associate vice-president, Quadrant, Pune, and Paul Menachery, the agency’s national creative director.
